MARVELOUS MISMATCHING

Last week we shared Bettina’s wedding that included 24 beautifully mismatched bridesmaids gowns in skin tones from nude to blush to peach. Mismatching bridesmaids dresses has never been more popular. It’s a great way to give your girls a bit more freedom in selecting a dress that suits their personality. You can keep it as simple as giving your girls different style options in the same color or having every single dress different as seen below. Here are 5 quick tips for marvelous mismatching.

1. Pick A Color Scheme ::: It sounds easy but picking a color palette for your bridesmaids dresses can be a daunting task. Try hitting up a paint store and get inspiration from paint swatches. Aim to keep colors from the same family.

2. Print Out Dress Options & Put in Line-up Order ::: This is pretty self-explanatory. Try printing out photos from online stores and literally place them in the order of your bridesmaids line-up. Some dresses will look better next to others so try not to discount a dress one of your girls may like.

3. Stick to Long or Short ::: In effort to simplify the process, it’ll make your job easier by sticking with long or short dresses.

4. Choose Similar Materials ::: Silk doesn’t really go well next to cotton. Try and select very similar materials (i.e. all flowy dresses or all fitted, etc…).

5. Do A Test Run In Person ::: Have your girls bring their dresses to your bachelorette party or bridal shower. Doing a test run in person is an absolute must for mismatching dresses.

We were Hawaii dreaming all week long while recapping Laura & Jeremy’s big day! So much so, we had Jacey from Damsel in Dior put together what she dreams of for a Hawaii bound wedding. Whether you are planning a wedding in Hawaii or attending one, here are a few key items that will ensure that you have a Happily Ever Hawaii.

A Collection of Bridesmaid’s Gowns

Mixing up your bridesmaids gowns can add wonderful depth to your event design. It can take a ho-hum color palette of pinks and grays and make it feel that much more sophisticated, developed and rich. This August we are designing what will become one of our favorite weddings yet and we have 22 bridesmaids to dress. That’s right…22. Overwhelming to say the least, but while the easiest thing to do would be to pick one gown and send the girls on the way, we’re sourcing, shopping and creating a collection of bohemian nightgown inspired dresses in a color story of grays, taupes, nudes and blushes. It’s going to be gorgeous and well worth the effort!

The trick to a collection of gowns that work well together without matching perfectly is don’t overthink it. So many brides worry that the fabric has to match exactly or the shades aren’t close enough in color. Stop that! Select a handful of gowns you love and let them inspire you. Also, as a side note, you almost ALWAYS have to get gowns from a variety of designers to make the look work out well. You want a variety of shades and textures and most designers only have one shade of “blush pink” every year. So go check out as many lines as you can and choose your favorites! If it’s too overwhelming for you, have your ladies choose their own after sharing your vision. To make sure no one strays too far off track, assign your most fashionable bridesmaid to take the lead in approving/declining any dress that’s brought to the table and above all, have fun!
